OpenIP
About

Why we’re building OpenIP

Our mission is to turn university IP from static listings and admin records into living, signal-driven deal pipelines that keep briefs, companies, and conversations in sync.

OpenIP exists to give tech transfer teams modern tooling that wraps around how they already work—raising the quality of every brief, surfacing the right companies faster, and making it clear where to focus staff time each week.

The story

TTOs are expected to cover more technologies than ever with lean teams and manual research tools. Briefs sit as PDFs or CMS entries, outreach relies on personal spreadsheets, and institutional memory walks out the door when roles change.

The insight behind OpenIP is that briefs should be the center of a dynamic system: enriched, discoverable, and continuously updated with signals. When briefs become live deal tiles, every officer and leader can see movement, not just static records.

Values we operate by

Human-centered automation

Software should accelerate licensing teams while keeping expert judgment in the loop at every step.

Respect for institutional constraints

We design for governance, compliance, and the realities of tech transfer workloads—not around them.

Signal over noise

Discovery and enrichment focus on meaningful signals so outreach is timely, relevant, and defensible.

Long-term relationships

OpenIP is built to help universities and industry partners compound trust over time, not chase quick wins.
